 A foundation is the substructure that supports a building or structure. It transfers the load from the structure to the underlying soil or rock. Foundations can be shallow, like spread footings, or deep, involving pilings or caissons, depending on soil conditions and the structure's requirements. 

The four types of foundation are:-

1. Shallow Foundations:-These include spread footings and mat foundations, which are placed near the surface and distribute the building load over a larger area.



2. Deep Foundations:- Examples are piles and drilled piers, which are used when the soil near the surface is not suitable for supporting the structure's load.


3. Slab Foundations:-A concrete slab, often used in residential construction, provides a flat and stable base for the structure.

4. Caisson Foundations:- These are large-diameter cylindrical foundation elements drilled deep into the ground, often used in bridge and tall building construction.







This four types of foundation are used in construction tecnology.
